Training of artisanal loggers on the creation and management of an association

DR Congo - 01 February, 2016

The commitment of artisanal loggers to form associations in order to contribute to the promotion of legality in the artisanal logging sector and have the legal capacity to defend their rights was the main outcome of a workshop organized by Tropenbos International DR Congo from 14 to 19 December 2015 in Kisangani.

During the workshop 42 artisanal loggers were trained on the creation, management and functioning of an association, and on monitoring, protection and promotion of their rights.

The participants in the workshop were representatives of artisanal loggers from six territories of two provinces involved in the project, namely, the Province of Tshopo (Isangi, Bafwasende, Ubundu and Kisangani) and the Province of Ituri (Aru, Mahagi and Mambasa).
