DownloadA report of a study on the sustainable management of tropical forest initiated by ITTO and the
Tropical Forestry Action Plan of Cameroon both published ten years ago made a detailed
diagnosis of the forestry sector of Cameroon at specially of the management of production
forests. Both came to the conclusion that Cameroon"s production forests were not yet
managed sustainably. Since then, the Cameroon Forestry administration, with the assistance
of the international community, has undertaken a number of actions to improve the
management of its production forests. These efforts made concern the restructuring of the
institutional and legal framework, the planning of forest land utilisation and the setting of
guidelines for the sustainable management of forest concession. In addition, a number of pilot
projects have been established to gather the technical data necessary for the sustainable
management for tropical forests. Despite these efforts, a number of short coming remain
which prevent smooth implementation of sustainable management of production forests.
