Henk joined Tropenbos International in 2017 as coordinator of African programmes developed under the green livelihoods alliance and the EU funded project strengthening the capacity of non-state actors to improve FLEGT-VPA and REDD+ processes in Western Africa.
Henk has a passion for Africa and has lived and worked in many countries throughout the continent since the early 1980s.
Trained in soil science, tropical agronomy and agricultural engineering, Henk started his career in agriculture extension and gradually made the transition to forests, integrating forestry into rural development at the fringe of agriculture and forests. Since the mid-1990s he has worked in the forests of Central Africa and with civil society, governments and local communities.
Driven by a keen purpose to contribute to transformational change, Henk has developed a strong interest in forest governance and integrated REDD+ programmes, land use and multisectoral planning processes.
