Hans supports programmes and projects, particularly in Africa. He oversees capacity building and organisational strengthening and is the contact person for students who are involved various programmes. He also coordinated NUFFIC-funded projects in Ghana, Colombia and Suriname to strengthen national organisations and universities.
Hans is a physical geographer from Amsterdam University, with a specialisation in landscape ecology as. He has over 30 years’ experience in many different aspects related to sustainable development, including the use of interdisciplinary, reliable, relevant and practical knowledge for integrated natural resources management, specifically in the humid tropics.
Hans has worked in Africa and Latin America, including for the UNESCO Man and Biosphere programme and development projects at the interface of people and their environment. Hans has worked for Tropenbos International since 1993, after involvement in projects in Côte d’Ivoire (1985-1987) in early stages of the Tropenbos programme.
