As programme coordinator, Hans supports the programmes and projects, particular in Africa. He also oversees capacity building and organizational strengthening and is the contact persons for students who are involved in the programme. He coordinated (NUFFIC funded) projects in Ghana, Colombia and Suriname to strengthen national organizations and universities.
Hans is a physical geographer from Amsterdam University, with landscape ecology as specialization. He has over 30 years’ experience in many different aspects related to sustainable development and natural resources. He has worked on the use of interdisciplinary, reliable, relevant and practical knowledge for integrated natural resources management, specifically in the humid tropics.
Hans has worked in Africa and Latin America. He speaks, next to English, basic French and Spanish. He worked for the UNESCO Man and Biosphere programme and development projects at the interface of people and their environment. Since 1993 Hans works for Tropenbos International in the Netherlands and therefore he worked in Côte d’Ivoire (1985-1987) as part of the early stages of the Tropenbos programme.
