In 2010, Herman joined Tropenbos International (TBI), where he coordinates the Financing sustainable forest management programme. As a Programme Coordinator, Herman manages, amongst others, the Partnership Programme with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the secretariat of ETFRN (the European Tropical Forest Research Network), the Dutch Forest Forum (Bossenoverleg), and the annual series of ‘On the Right Track’ forest seminars that have tackled topical issues over the past ten years. Over six years, he has co-authored dozens of reports, articles, briefs and books.
Herman graduated in Tropical Forestry from Wageningen University in 1981, and has 35 years’ experience in many different aspects related to tropical forestry and development. And the “power of knowledge and networks to connect people for joint action” guides much of what he has done and continues to do, professionally.
He has spent much time in Latin America and Asia developing his professional experience and networks in forestry for sustainable rural livelihood development. He also worked for 15 years with the Netherlands government as an international forestry policy advisor. He speaks Spanish and English fluently.
