Supporting the establishment of the National
Forestry Research Strategy
TBI-Vietnam provides technical and financial support to the
finalisation of the Forest Research Strategy.
The Forest Research Strategy (FRS) has been taken up by the
Government of Vietnam to consolidate the Forestry Development
Strategy 2001-2010. The Forest Science Institute of Vietnam
(FSIV) and Forest Inventory and Planning Institute FIPI have
been designated by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
MARD to develop it, with the former in the leading role. The
strategy is meant to provide orientation for policy formulation,
identification of an action plan and setting of priorities
for forestry research, in order to promote the effectiveness
of scientific research, establish projects and attract investment.
TBI-VN has subsequently been asked to support FSIV in the
development of the FRS. TBI-VN has played a major role in
facilitating meetings, workshops and contributing to the draft.
Several meetings and workshops were held in 2004 to formulate
the FRS in a participatory manner. During these meetings,
valuable feedback was provided by researchers, decision makers
and relevant organizations in the forestry sector. TBI-VN
has also invited several international forestry experts with
experience in Vietnam and in the region.
The current FRS draft is awaiting approval, since it needs
to become an integral part of the National Forest Strategy,
which has not been completed yet.
