Promoting uptake and application
Research results usually come in the form of a scientific publication,
a book or a report. Difficult information carried by technical language
does not always optimise its impact. TBI-Ghana promotes optimal
application and uptake of research through effective platforms and
media. Some of the activities in this area are:
Focus group discussion
An effective method of linking research
and politics seems to be the organization of focus group discussions.
An actual topic, fed by scientific knowledge and discussed with
daily-life issues with the ultimate aim of coming up with practical
recommendations. The TBI-Ghana experience...
Bridging
science and society to conserve Ghana's rainforest
The overall objective is to contribute to conservation of the forest
through raising awareness and linking scientific knowledge and society.
The training component in this project involves raising awareness
of forest fringe communities and general public on how to use the
forest in a sustainable way and facilitate bottom-up information
flow. To achieve this, TBI-Ghana organises participatory rapid appraisal
(PRA), and participatory learning actions (PLAs) in a great number
of villages in and around the TBI-Ghana study area supported by
a travelling poster exhibition.
Collaboration and Cooperation
By bringing together partners with different skills, experiences
and perspectives, TBI creates new and enhances existing information,
develops human resources, builds institutional capacity in support
of people, conservation and sustainable development. So far, TBI-Ghana's
activities in collaboration and cooperation have been the following:
NGO brochure
TBI-Ghana has created an NGO brochure which presents all NGOs in
the forestry and environment sectors in Ghana. This brochure will
enable communication flow between NGOs and therefore facilitate
the coordination of NGOs' activities.
Communication Training
TBI-Ghana has developed communication trainings as a service to
its Ghanaian partner organizations. These trainings involve presentation
skills and writing skills: proposal writing, scientific writing,
and popular writing.
