Ghana has signed a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the European Union (EU) to trade only legal wood. This agreement places much emphasis on how wood being traded on the European and domestic markets are sourced. In that, how wood is sourced determines its legality which is verified through a wood tracking system. It is therefore important for all actors along the lumber supply chain to be abreast with how to source wood legally to stay in business in the light of VPA implementation.

This publication ‘Sourcing wood legally in Ghana’ detail out all the options for sourcing wood legally in Ghana in relation to VPA implementation. It describes all the timber permit regimes in Ghana as well as their associated prescriptions. The publication also elaborated on other timber flows to the supply chain.

This book was published under an EU funded project that provided intermediaries with information and guidance to comply with Ghana’s timber legality assurance system and engage in policy advocacy on the domestic market reforms in Ghana.
