Spatial Planning of Indigenous Territories

project_1There is a need for public policy tools for use in spatial planning and management. Through this project TBI Colombia seeks to answer the following questions:

  • How can public policies for the management of natural resources and environmental matters be made more robust?
  • What are the environmental information needs in indigenous territories in the Amazon?
  • How can information be generated to meet these needs?
  • How can information on forest resources be acquired and incorporated into management plans?

Activities within this project will aim to assist both local indigenous communities and organizations during spatial planning processes. To achieve this goal, the programme will not only stimulate the generation of relevant information, but also help to assemble and structure previously generated information in a way that makes it accessible to indigenous people. TBI Colombia expects that the results and outputs of this project will become tools for political negotiation between indigenous people, government and non-governmental institutions.
