Impact of Climate Change on Indigenous Livelihoods |
|
There is little information about the impact of climate change on local livelihoods in the Colombian Amazon. TBI Colombia wants to anticipate the implications of climate change on the livelihoods of indigenous people in the Amazon, especially regarding food security and consumption patterns. Climate change is affecting the annual hydrological cycles in the region. In turn, these changes affect fishing, hunting and cultivation patterns, leaving local people with few alternatives to complement their diet. The activities in this project will generate information related to hydrological cycles and use locally gathered data to analyse the consumption patterns of indigenous people.
Through this project TBI Colombia seeks to answer the following questions:
- How are forest-dependent people being affected by climate change?
- How does climate change affect daily activities like fishing, hunting, farming and the use of forest products?
- How is climate change affecting the relationship between forest dwellers and their territory?
Objective To anticipate the implications of climate change (especially via effects on river levels and seasonal changes) for the food security of local indigenous communities through a follow-up study of consumption (fishing, hunting and agricultural plots).
Duration 2008 to 2011
Expected outcomes Information about the local implications of climate change in a few areas of the Amazon. |
