Growth, regeneration and mortality in managed natural forest.

(ENDED)

Objective:

To develop a silvicultural system for evergreen rain forest, based on natural regeneration and to develop a growth and yield model to predict long-term stand development

Output:

Pre-harvest treatments: A study of new developments in forest management in Cameroon and some surrounding countries and an elaborate literate study on the abandance and richness of lianas have been published. Recommendations for the inventory of lianas have been formulated. Effects of pre-harvest liana cutting have been studied and recommendations for treatments formulated. Together with other researchers recommendations for forest management, focussing on the involvement of the local population, have been produced. Dutch researcher defended PhD sucessfully.

Post-harvest treatments: Phenology of 86 tree species described. Conceptual approaches of post-harvest treatment, monitoring and evaluation described, two experimental treatments were applied during the last project year, but no evaluation of the results was done. Technical aspects of experimental set-up and treatment described.
