Platform
for knowledge-based multi-stakeholder dialogue on forestry issues
in Ghana
In
2006, TBI-Ghana received, in collaboration with other civil society
organizations a FAO-sponsored contract to assist the Forestry
Commission to institutionalize the dialogue concept in ten regions
of the country. TBI-Ghana was responsible for establishing three
regional forums in the Volta, Greater Accra and Eastern region.
The process was to start from the district level through regional
forums to the national level, thus providing policy options, information
sharing and common understanding among stakeholders. Stakeholders
discussed key forestry issues pertaining to each forest district
and agreed on issues to be considered at the regional forum.

Preparation of a national forestry
agenda

TBI-Ghana
organized a national stakeholder prioritization workshop (together
with the Forestry Commission) to identify national development and
research priorities for the forestry sector. Representatives of
forest fringe communities, wood workers, civil society, the donor
community, researchers and related government institutions took
part in the workshop. During the workshop, stakeholders ranked forestry
themes. The main output, a national forestry agenda, will guide
research and development interventions for the sector in the coming
years.
